Autumn holidays in South Tyrol are at their best. At this time of year, the views are uninterrupted and nature puts on a spectacle of colour.
Those on holiday in autumn like to combine their days off with a ‘Törggelen’. From October until the beginning of the pre-Christmas period, South Tyroleans and guests savour and enjoy the products of the harvest.
After a hike past colourful autumn chestnut groves, vineyards, farms and art monuments, you stop off at a tavern of agrotourism to enjoy the new wine and various seasonal dishes in a convivial atmosphere.
Typical ‘Törggelen’ dishes include speck, cheese, barley soup, dumpling variations, Tirtlan, pork ribs, sausages, potatoes and sauerkraut.
Finally, doughnuts, fruit, nuts and of course chestnuts are served. The ‘Törggelen’ ends with a cosy get-together with singing and music.
